Sophomores led the way to a 4-1 Warrior victory over Fresno Pacific at Russ Carr Field today. Sophomore Anna Gropp scored twice in the second period to give Westmont a 2-1 and then 3-1 lead. Gropp’s first goal came in the 57th minute when fellow sophomore Jane Wyche headed the ball to Gropp who scored from five yards out. In the 75th minute, Katie Rhodes, yet another sophomore, made a beautiful pass to Gropp who drove past her defender and scored from 10 yards out. Rhodes scored the games first goal five minutes into the game. A pass from sophomore Jessica Schoepke gave Rhodes the opportunity to score from eight yards away.

Refusing to allow the sophomores to have all the fun, seniors Kristi Peich and Katie Cates combined to account for the final margin. After a foul called on the Sunbirds, Cates quickly kicked the ball upfield to a sprinting Peich who dribbled the ball down the right side before exploding with a shot from 12 yards out that the keeper could not reach.

The Warriors (5-5-1, 2-1-1) will travel to Santa Clarita for a game against The Master’s College on Wednesday afternoon.
