Submitted by: Ron Smith - October 15th, 2004The Warriors began the second half of GSAC competition by hosting the Mustangs of The Master’s College at Murchison Gymnasium. Unfortunately, the game ended with a 3-1 (30-28, 30-21, 28-30, 30-26) victory for the visitors.
Game one remained a close contest through 21-all when the Mustangs began to pull away on the strength of Lacey Brueggman’s serving. The Warriors nearly pulled even when Kelsey Voetman and Bonnie Van Elderen blocked a Mustang attack to make the score 26-27, but they would not get closer as The Master’s claimed a 30-28 victory in game one.
The second game was marked by a number of unforced errors by the Warriors prompting Head Coach Jim Smoot to juggle his lineup for game three. Malinda Reese moved from libero to outside hitter while Katie Pace donned the libero’s jersey. Crisp passing by Pace jump started the Warrior’s offense and Reese connected on four kills in the game. IIn game four, the Warriors jumped out to 15-11 lead, but The Mustangs rallied to claim a 30-27 victory.
Voetman led the Warriors with 13 kills while Anna Lieberman added 10. Amber Dovovan had 20 assists and Leslie Carrol 18. Reese had 25 digs and Pace contributed 14.
The Warriors will host number one ranked Fresno Pacific tomorrow afternoon at 5:30.
