Warriors Put Scare Into #4 Concordia
Submitted by: Ron Smith - October 28th, 2004Despite a well played game by the Warrior squad at Murchison Gymnasium, Westmont was defeated by #4 Concordia 3-1 (28-30, 30-25, 30-28, 30-20)
In the first game, the Eagles jumped out to a 6-3 lead and increased it to 19-13 before the Warriors came roaring back. Allegra Willis tied the game at 23-all with one of her match high 16 kills. A second kill by Willis put the Warriors ahead by one. Concordia tied the game at 27 and took the lead when Heidi Schlecht put the ball on the floor. But Westmont responded with another kill by Willis to tie the game at 28. An attack error by the Eagles put the Warriors ahead and Abby Pierik secured the win in game one with a service ace.
In the second game, the score remained close until a series of Westmont attack errors allowed the Eagles to build a 24-16 lead, which turned into a 30-25 visitor victory. In game three, the Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead but caught the error bug themselves and the Warriors tied the game at 11. The two teams trade points until 15-15 when the Lions began to pull away, slowly building a 28-23 advantage. Two kills by Allison Sebek (nine in the match), helped the Warriors pull within two and a kill be Kelsey Voetman (12 in the match), pulled the Warriors to within one at 29-28. But a service error ended Westmont’s hopes of going up two games to one.
In the fourth game, the Eagles again opened up a 4-0 advantage. This time they never looked back, winning the game 30-20 to claim the match three games to one. Anna Lieberman recorded 10 kills in the contest while Amber Donovan had 44 assists. Katie Pace led the Warriors with 25 digs, while Malinda Reese added 21 and Anna Lieberman another 18.
The Warriors (6-16, 3-12) will play another home game on Saturday against Hope International (14-13, 4-11). Game time is 7:00 p.m.
