For the third time in her Westmont career, senior midfielder Kristi Peich has been named to the Women’s Soccer All-Golden State Athletic Conference Team. Peich, of Claremont, California, leads the Warrior this year in assists with seven and has scored six goals. Currently fifth on Westmont’s career assist list with 29, Peich was also honored as an all-conference player in her freshman and junior years. In those years she was also selected as team MVP. “Kristi has fantastic touch on the ball, the best I’ve ever seen,” remarked Head Coach Dan Ribbens. “She has game saavy and provides great leadership to our team both on and off the field.”
Senior midfielder Katie Cates of Newbury Park, California was also named to the All-GSAC team. Despite missing the first seven games of the season with an injury, Cates has helped lead the Warriors through a successful conference season, contributing one goal and three assists. Cates has a career total of 13 goals and 14 assists for the Warriors. “Katie plays bigger than she is,” said Ribbens of the 5′ 3″ Cates. “She goes up and beats players six inches to a foot taller than her. She has a great work ethic and an ability to make slicing moves that can shred a defense.”
Cates and Peich have both played on three national championship teams. “There is not a better duo in the middle of the field on the west coast and probably in the nation,” asserted Ribbens. “They own the middle.”
Also named to the All-GSAC Team is junior defender Katie Schick of Irvine, California. Schick has the distinction of starting in every game in her three years at Westmont. “Katie is a saavy defender who doesn’t get beat,” said Ribbens. “She is very intelligent and plays the angles well. Katie understands her limitations and compensates for them. She isn’t flashy and teams tend to want to go at her, but she gets the job done.”
Sophomore midfielder Jane Wyche of Huntington Beach, California is Westmont’s fourth all-conference selection. Wyche has scored seven goals and contributed three assists this year. In a 3-0 victory against Christian Heritage, Wyche scored a hat trick, all of which where headers in set plays. “Jane is terrific in the air, one of the best headers in the nation and a great goal scorer,” noted Ribbens. “She strikes a gorgeous ball and is a threat to score anytime she is within 30 yards of the goal.”
