Westmont Reigns Over Kingsmen

Matt Burkholder recorded 25 points Saturday night on the way to a 79-58 Warrior win over the Kingsmen of California Lutheran (3-2). Burkholder was 10 for 15 from the field and 4 for 4 from the free throw line. Kyle Bechler and Nick Debban each recorded 13 points for the Warriors who collectively shot 61.2% from the field.

Down by one at the 13:42 mark, the Warriors went on a 10-0 run on field goals by Debban, Luke Allen and Santiago Aguirre. The Kingsmen battled back and tied the game at 27 on a three-point bucket by Deshion Inniss. The Warriors responded by closing out the period on a 17-6 run with Burkholder accounting for 10 of the Westmont points. The Warriors entered the locker room with a 42-33 advantage.

Returning from intermission, Cal Lutheran cut the lead to 46-40 before the Warriors went on a 9-0 run fueled by three field goals from Debban. Up by 15, the Warriors did not surrender their double digit lead the rest of the evening. Cal Lutheran was led by Alex Minney (19 points ) and Ryan Hodges (16 points).

Westmont takes its 5-2 record on the road next Saturday night to Claremont McKenna for a 7:00 p.m. game.
