Senior Amber Donovan of Auburn, California and sophomore Malinda Reese of San Carlos, California have been honored by the Golden State Athletic Conference for their performances on the volleyball court during the previous week.

Donovan, a senior, was honored as the GSAC Volleyball Setter of the Week after tallying 197 assists (14.1 per game) in five matches. Donovan recorded 58 assists in a four game victory over Holy Names and 49 assists while playing in only two of three games against Bethany (Calif.). Donovan’s consistency as a setter helped the Warriors to win all five of their matches last week. She also had 24 digs, 9 kills, 3 aces and 7 blocks.

In 10 matches this season, Donovan has totaled 435 assists. With 20 matches left in the regular season, she needs 533 more to set the Westmont career assist record, currently held by Corrie Wilhelm with 4,345.

The GSAC also announced that Westmont sophomore Malinda Reese was chosen as the GSAC Volleyball Libero of the Week. Reese averaged 6.24 digs and five serve receptions per game in the Warriors five matches. For the week, her serve reception percent-age was .944. In the final contest of the week against Holy Names, Reese accumulated 32 digs and 32 pass receptions.

Averaging 5.67 digs-per-game, Reese is the Warriors’ career digs-per-game leader. Against Cornerstone in the first match of the year, Reese set a school record of 35 digs in one match.

With a seven game winning streak to boost their confidence, the Warriors will open the GSAC season on Tuesday as they host Hope International at Murchison Gymnasium in a 7:00 p.m. game.
