Westmont junior outside hitter Kelsey Voetmann has been named the Golden State Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for her role in leading the Warriors to victory over #5 Concordia (10-1, 1-1) and Hope International (0-2, 0-2). Voetmann hails from Lynnwood, Washington.
Voetmann recorded a combined 37 kills in last week’s matches and posted a hitting percentage of .349. In Westmont’s 3-1 upset over previously undefeated Concordia, Voetmann notched 21 kills and five service aces. Against Hope International, Voetmann hit .467 with 16 kills and four service aces.
“Kelsey’s performance last week reflects the hard work she put in last spring which has resulted in an overall improvement of her game,” said Westmont volleyball head coach Jim Smoot. “She has also incorporated an aggressive attitude into her game.”
Voetmann ranks second in the GSAC this season with 4.75 kills per game. She is also fifth on Westmont’s career kills per game list at 3.37. In last week’s play she averaged 5.29 kills.
“Kelsey is becoming a versatile attacker, able to attack from both the left and the right,” noted Smoot. “Her diversified attack from different areas of the court has benefited our team.”
The Warriors (10-2, 2-0) will take to the road this weekend, playing at Point Loma Nazarene on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and at San Diego Christian on Saturday in a 3:00 p.m. game.
