Women’s Volleyball Sweeps The Master’s

The road trip to Santa Clarita is the shortest of the year for Westmont’s Volleyball team and a three game sweep of The Master’s (6-9, 2-5) made it a quick trip for the Warriors.

Westmont (13-5, 5-2) was led offensively by Allegra Willis (.353 hitting %) and Kelsey Voetmann (.222) who recorded nine kills each in the 30-25, 31-29, 30-22 win. Kristen De Groot added seven more kills to the Warrior totals.

The night could have been much longer for the Warriors if they had not rallied from a 21-11 deficit in the second game. Three consecutive errors by the Mustangs pushed the score to 21-14 before Mary Franklin of The Master’s scored again to establish a 22-14 advantage. But the Warriors scored the next six points on two kills by Voetmann, two service aces by freshman Stephanie Strasner, a kill by Willis and a Mustang ball handling error.

After the two teams exchanged points on a string of rallies, sophomore Malinda Reese served back to back aces to pull the Warriors even at 25 all. Neither team could pull ahead by more than a point until at 29 all, Willis and Voetmann delivered back-to-back kills to put the Warriors ahead two games to zero.

Westmont took control of game three early, building an 8-3 lead. The Mustangs pulled to within one point at 13-12, but were not able to even the score. The Warriors ended the contest with a 12-5 run.

Senior setter Amber Donovan contributed 30 assists in the contest, which means that she needs exactly 200 more to become the Warriors all-time assist leader. Reese powered the Warrior defense with 30 serve receptions and 13 digs. Sophomore Katie Pace added nine digs and nine serve receptions.

The road Warriors will face their longest conference trip of the year on Saturday when they travel to Fresno to take on #1 Fresno Pacific (14-0, 5-0) in a 3:00 pm game.
