Eagles Return the Favor

The tenth ranked Eagles of Concordia (16-4, 7-4) were out for revenge Tuesday night. Westmont Volleyball (13-8, 5-6) handed the Eagles a four game loss at Murchison Gymnasium on September 10th when Concordia was undefeated and ranked fifth in the NAIA. Since that time, the Eagles have been waiting for the Warriors to visit their arena. That opportunity came last night and unfortunately for Westmont, the Eagles succeeded in snaring their prey by defeating the Warriors in three games (30-23, 30-19, 30-28).

Concordia took charge early in game one, mounting an 8-2 lead and never looking back. Westmont was never able to get its offense going and managed a mere .117 hitting percentage for the match. The Warriors committed 22 hitting errors while registering 39 kills in the contest. Junior Kelsey Voetmann and Kristen De Groot led the Warriors with eleven kills each. Amber Donovan totaled 33 assists.

The Warriors threatened a comeback in game three, but came up short. Trailing 9-3, Westmont rallied with a 7-2 run to tie the game at 11. A close game ensued with neither team taking more than a one point lead until they score reached 28 all. But back-to-back kills by Concordia sealed the deal for the Eagles and sent Westmont home with their fourth straight loss.

Westmont will be back in action on Friday night as the Warriors travel to Hope International for a 7:00 p.m. game. The next home contest will take place on Friday, October 21st when Westmont will host San Diego Christian at 7:00 p.m.
