Schick Named Academic All-American®
Submitted by: Ron Smith - November 22nd, 2005
Senior Katie Schick, who holds a 3.99 GPA as a liberal studies major, has been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Women’s Soccer Team. Schick was selected to the college division first team. She is the second Warrior to receive the award - the first being Katie Gardinier in 2000 - and the eighth honoree from a Golden State Athletic Conference institution.
A defender for the Warrior soccer team, Schick started all 87 games of her four-year career and was twice named to the All-GSAC team. She is also a two time NAIA and GSAC Scholar-Athlete selection and last year was honored as the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Scholar-Athlete of the Year from Westmont College.
The Phi Kappa Phi honor society member served as director of the Westmont Speech Tournament in 2003 and 2004 and is a recipient of the Faculty Fellowship Scholarship. She is also a four-year recipient of the Presidential Scholarship.
As an athlete, Schick has been a starter on two NAIA National Championship teams (2002, 2003). In 2004 the Warriors advanced to the quarterfinals of the national tournament and in her senior year (2005) Westmont earned a spot in the final four.
The Academic All-America® teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in a competitive process. NCAA Division I athletes are eligible for university division selection while NAIA and NCAA Division II and III athletes are chosen for the college division. In both divisions athletes are named to first, second and third teams. Only four defenders nationwide are named to the college division first team.
