Lawson Named to NAIA All-Tournament Team

Westmont freshman forward Amy Lawson has been named to the 2005 NAIA All-Tournament Team. The honor was awarded to 13 athletes from the 20 teams that participated in the 2005 NAIA National Championship Tournament held in Olathe, Kansas.
Lawson scored three goals in the tournament, two against Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and one against Houghton (N.Y.) to help the Warriors advance to the semifinals. The Warriors tied 1-1 with Martin Methodist (Tenn.) in the semifinals, but did not advance to the final game when they were outscored on penalty kicks 3-4. Martin Methodist went on to win the national championship by defeating Lee (Tenn.) by a score of 1-0.
Lawson’s three goal total was the second most in the tournament. Forward Janaina Novaes of Lee scored four goals and was selected as the Outstanding Offensive Player. Defender Maiko Higashiyama of Martin Methodist was named Outstanding Defensive Player and her teammate, defender Johanna Botold, was named the Tournament MVP.
Others named to the all-tournament team were forwards Lisa Mann of Martin Methodist and Shannon Coe of Azusa Pacific; midfielders Clare Sykes of Martin Methodist, Tiffany Cox and Danielle McDowell of Lee and Carlen Oates of Simon Fraser (B.C.); defenders Kristina Chase of Lee and Alexandra Stegmann of Simon Fraser; and goalkeeper Michele Gademans of Simon Fraser.
