Volleyball Falls to #6 Concordia in Three

Westmont volleyball battled against #6 Concordia in Irvine, but the Eagles prevailed in three games 30-19, 30-27, 30-18.

In the first game of the match, Westmont (2-4, 0-2) help a slight 10-9 advantage but allowed Concordia (10-0, 2-0) to go on an 11-0 run which included four service aces in a row by the Eagles’ Ashley Robbins. That unchecked attacked proved to be the difference in the first game.

In the second game, Westmont battled back from a 19-13 deficit and briefly held the lead at 22-21. The team’s traded points until 26-26 when Concordia claimed three points on a Warrior service error, a service ace by Cassie Ells and a kill by Shanna Massman. A service error by Ells gave the Warriors a chance with the score 29-27, but Massman delivered another kill to claim the second game for the Eagles.

The Warriors were never in the third game as Concordia jumped out to a 5-1 lead and never looked back.

Senior outside hitter Kelsey Voetmann led the Warriors with 12 kills while posting a .321 attack percentage. Freshman middle blocker Katelyn Lowry added seven kills to the Westmont cause and fellow freshman Stephanie Dunn contributed six kills and recorded a Warrior best .455 attack percentage. Senior setter Leslie Carroll produced 16 assists while juniors Katie Pace and Malinda Reese each had 16 digs.

The Warriors will host #18 Point Loma Nazarene (8-1, 0-1) on Friday night at 7:00 pm in their home opener at Murchison Gymnasium. The following day Westmont will host San Diego Christian at 3:00 p.m.
