Men Win at Westmont Cross Country Invitational

Junior Andrew Dixon and senior Aaron Megazzi finished second and third at the 27th Westmont Invitational to lead #11 Westmont Men’s Cross Country to their fourth straight win at the annual event. Dixon completed the 8,000 meter course in a time of 26:23 while Megazzi posted a time of 26:34.

The #17 Westmont Women’s Cross Country team placed third with senior Anna Stumbo claiming fourth place in a time of 19:29. Stumbo won the event in both her freshman and sophomore year. #8 Biola won the race with 33 points followed by Fresno Pacific in second place with 45 points. The Warriors tallied 61 points. California Lutheran finished fourth with 127 points.

The women’s 5,000 meter race was won by Kristin Schmidt of Biola in a time of 18:59. Ashley Nelson and Melissa Perez, both of Fresno Pacific, finished second and third with times of 19:06 and 19:14 respectively.

Senior Leanne Riggin finished in twelfth place for the Warriors and freshman Katie Fritzke claimed the number 13 spot. Riggins posted a time of 20:31 and Fritzke crossed the line seven seconds later. Kaitlyn Dunn and Christa Juell rounded out Westmont’s top five finishers. Dunn placed fifteenth in a time of 20:46 and Juell finished seventeenth in a time of 20:57.

Brian Ball of Biola was the winner of the men’s race, posting a time of 26:01, the sixth best time since the current course layout was adopted in 1997.

Westmont’s Sean Adams, Nick Martin and Jacob Goodin complete the top-five finishers for the Warriors. Sean placed tenth in a time of 27:41. Martin and Goodin followed closely behind, placing eleventh and twelfth with times of 27:46 and 27:47 respectively.

Westmont’s team score of 32 outpaced Fresno Pacific who scored 42 to finish second. Biola claimed third place with a score of 54 while California Lutheran notched 98 points to take fourth.

The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, September 29 when they travel to Palo Alto to take part in the Stanford Invitational.
