After starting the season 4-0, #20 Westmont Men’s Soccer suffered their first defeat of the season with a 2-1 double overtime loss at #22 Redlands (3-2) on Monday evening.

“We played poorly in the first half,” said head coach Dave Wolf. “We were disengaged and uninspired. We weren’t very good defensively.”

The Warriors fell behind 1-0 when the Bulldogs’ Max Bowman scored in the twenty-fourth minute off a cross from the left by Kody Andrew.

“We bounced back and played a litte better in the second half,” said Wolf, “and were able to get the equalizer.”

The tying goal came from senior midfielder Johnny Alcaraz in the seventieth minute with junior Sammy Montemer contributing on the goal.

After a scoreless first overtime, Andrew ended the game just 23 seconds into the start of the second overtime period. This time the recipient of a cross from the left side, Andrew headed the ball into the net for the golden goal.

Westmont begins Golden State Athletic Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Costa Mesa to take on #14 Vanguard (5-1) in a 5:00 p.m. game. The Warrior’s next home game will come on Tuesday, September 25 in a 4:00 p.m. contest with The Master’s (4-0-2).
