It turned out to be a disappointing trip to La Mirada for Westmont Volleyball. The Warriors dropped their second straight Golden State Athletic Conference game to the #4 Eagles of Biola (12-0, 2-0 GSAC) on Saturday night at Chase Gymnasium. Westmont, who fell to 6-6 on the year and 0-2 in conference play, lost in straight sets 25-7, 25-18, 25-22.

The first set was all Eagles as Biola recorded 16 kills on 24 attempts for a .625 team attack percentage. The Warriors turned things around at the start of the second set, jumping out to a 7-2 advantage. Anna Nyhoff got things started for the Warriors with a kill followed by a service ace. Laura Trudelle added a couple of kills during the early going.

But the Eagles scored the next seven points to take the lead, fueled by three service aces from Biola’s Abbie Wright. After Westmont tied the set again at nine points each, the Eagles reeled of ten straight points to put the set out of reach.

The two squads battled to a 10-10 tie in the third set before Biola produced a 7-1 run. Westmont rallied to pull within one at 18-17 but the Eagles stopped the Warrior momentum with a three point run to take a 21-17 lead. Jenise DeBie and Beth Widicus produced kills to move within two points, but that was as close as Westmont would get in the final frame.

Due in part to 18 attack errors, Westmont’s attack percentage was only .086 for the match. Alison Sharp led Westmont with six kills, four of which came in the final set. Laura Trudelle and Katie Sharp each added five more. Of the Warriors six blocks, Katie Sharp was credited with five – one solo and four assists. Erin Dohm tallied 21 serve receptions and seven digs while Alison Sharp added 17 serve receptions and 10 digs.

Biola was led by Jessica Buffum with 14 kills (.522 attack percentage) and Meghan Warkentin with 12 (.611 attack percentage).

Westmont’s next match will be at home on Tuesday against The Master’s (6-4, 0-2 GSAC) who lost in straight sets to #16 Azusa Pacific (11-3, 1-1 GSAC) on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Murchison Gymnasium.
