Track and Field Teams Take First – Twice

Westmont’s Becky Collier cleared 1.70 meters (5-7) in the high jump to earn an automatic qualification into the NAIA Indoor National Championships in March. Collier, who took first place, was competing in Westmont’s first home meet of the year.

Both Westmont’s men’s and women’s teams took first place. The women’s team tallied 76 points to Azusa Pacific’s 59 points. California Lutheran took third place with 42 points. In the men’s competition, Westmont won with 71 points, Azusa Pacific claimed second with 60 points and California Lutheran finished third with 49 points.

Jessica Meyers claimed a provisional qualification time of 5:11.53 in the mile run, taking first place. Shane Rowan also achieved a provisional qualification mark, jumping 14.19 meters (46-6.75) in the men’s triple jump.

Westmont’s Taryn Phillips won both the women’s 100 and 200 meter races with times of 12.99 and 25.86 respectively. Kaylin Koopmans won the 400 meter dash in a time of 61.83 while Alexandria Adams posted a time 2:21.96 to claim first place in the 800 meters.

Also claiming first place was Elysia Hodges with a time of 60.98 in the 400 meter hurdles. Taylor Frantom tied for first place in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.31 meters (10-10.25).

In the men’s races, Tyler Moore earned first place with a 49.46 in the 400 meters and John Nealon won the 800 meters in a time of 1:58.03. In the mile, Evan Bradford took first place with a time of 4:21.13, Daniel Erickson claimed first in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:07.93 and Bradford Ortlund won the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 58.34.

In men’s field events, James Beeghly won the pole vault by clearing 3.65 meters (11-11.75) and Ben Kingsley won the men’s shot with a put of 15.21 meters (49-11).

Westmont athletes will have another opportunity to qualify for the indoor national championship when they host the Westmont Sunshine Indoor Open next Saturday.
