Women’s Tennis Competes in ITA Regionals

Three members of the Westmont Women’s Tennis team reached the singles quarterfinals of the ITA NAIA Small College West Region Tournament and two teams reached the doubles quarterfinals.

After a first round bye, Haley Strandness posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Madeline Heer of Biola in the second round to reach the quarterfinals. Grace Davis, who also had a first round bye, defeated Susan Carmichael of Biola in the second round 6-1, 6-3.

Alyson Meyers earned her spot in the quarterfinals by posting a 7-6 (3), 6-1 win over Ulrike Hahn of Concordia. In the second round, Meyers defeated Biola’s Kelsey Post 6-0, 6-2.

Unfortunately, all three Warriors lost their quarterfinal matches to athletes from Arizona Christian. Strandness fell 6-1, 6-3 to Mikayla Morga while Davis lost 6-3, 6-1 to Jessica Trink. Meyers fell to top-seeded Andrea Crook.

In doubles play, Davis and Fernanda Rivera received a first round bye but lost in the quarterfinals 9-8 (4), to Kathryn Ashford and Carmichael of Biola.

Meyers and Strandness posted an 8-3 win over Hope International’s Sabrina Miller and Alyssa Penner in the first round before losing to Hahn and Ivana Vlakic of Concordia by a score of 8-4.
