Putting out the Firestorm

(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) The #8 Westmont men’s tennis team (8-6, 7-2 GSAC) went to work against Arizona Christian (5-10, 1-9) on Thursday afternoon on the Abbott Tennis Courts, winning by a team score of 8-1.

On singles court number one, Carl- Philip Lindqvist swept Santiago Galeffi with duel scores of 6-0, 6-0. Right behind him was Luke Whalen posted scores of 6-4, 6-4 against the Firestorms Tyler Cawthorne. Joshua Barnard was back in action today in singles play today on court number three. He went up against Arizona Christian’s David Castano and defeated him 6-0, 6-1.

On court number four, Jan Sibbel continued the singles sweep with scores of 6-2, 6-3 against his opponent. Christian Mathis quickly overcame Andrew Gross with two scores of 6-0. To complete the day, Tommy Nightingale had the closest of the singles matches with final scores of 6-4 and 6-3 against Adam West.

The beginning of doubles play continued the Westmont winning streak. In the number one position, Barnard and Lindqvist overcame Galeffi and Cawthorne 8-5. They were quickly followed by an 8-3 Warriors win by the Sibbel-Mathis vs. Bedard-Gross tagteams. The final doubles match was the only set of the day that Westmont dropped. Arizona Christians Michael Munguia and David Castano rallied to defeated Tommy Nightingale and Travis Smelley with a final 8-1 score.

With the win, Westmont progresses to 8-6 overall and 7-2 in GSAC play. The Warriors will take the Abbott Tennis Courts again Saturday March 28 at 2 pm against visiting Xavier (La.)
