After throwing his third complete game in a row and defeating Concordia 2-0 last Saturday, Westmont’s Daniel Butler has been named the Golden State Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week. Butler, a sophomore from Lone Tree, Colorado, has produced a record of 9-0 this season and an earned run average of 2.25.

Butler has won each of his last eight starts, including the last two against ranked opponents.

In Saturday’s game against #19 Concordia (40-14), Butler allowed just three hits, all in different innings, and gave up just one walk while recording two strikeouts. The right-hander faced just 31 batters over the nine innings, four more than the minimum. No Eagle base runner advanced past second base.

The Warriors finished the regular season with a record of 37-13 overall and 31-11 in GSAC play. Their second place finish – two games behind The Master’s – has earned them the number two seed in the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament that begins on Thursday in Santa Clarita. The Warriors will begin tournament play with a 9:00 a.m. game against Concordia.

Butler is the second Warrior this season to collect honors from the GSAC. On March 23, senior center fielder Will Barring was named the GSAC Player of the week after going eight for 14 in one game against William Jessup and three games against San Diego Christian.

Barring, who hails from Tustin, scored four runs and drove in seven more. He connected for two doubles and a home run.
