Westmont Men’s Soccer (4-4-1, 1-2 GSAC) could not find its way out of a 2-0 hole in La Mirada and ended up suffering a 3-1 loss to the Eagles of Biola (6-3-1, 2-0-1).

“We had to play a much better game than we did to compete with that group,” said Westmont head coach Dave Wolf. “We weren’t able to do that and as a result took the loss.”

The Warriors gave up an unfortunate goal in the 18th minute when Joey O’Keefe stole the ball from Westmont goalkeeper Josh Glover and produced the game’s first goal.

“That put our team in difficult situation on the road against a very good team,” acknowledged Wolf. “In the end, we weren’t able to overcome that error. Their quality was able to dominate the day.”

In the 67th minute, Biola went up 2-0 when a sliding Leonardo Contreras connected with a ball delivered by O’Keefe.

The Warriors’ hopes were raised in the 80th minute when freshman Tim Heiduk scored his first collegiate goal.

“Timmy’s goal was really nice,” said Wolf. “Wilton (Quintero) played a first time ball over the top that Timmy anticipated and ran on and finished really well. It was a good piece of work by both of them and momentarily got us back in the mix.”

Five minutes later, the Eagles added to the Warriors’ frustrations when Devin Leon scored a goal assisted by O’Keefe.

Westmont will take on Arizona Christian on Saturday as part of homecoming activities. During halftime, the Warriors will celebrate 50 years of soccer by honoring alumni and coaches in a special celebration. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. following the women’s soccer game.
