The official Opening Round pairings for the 2015 NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship have been announced: The #8 Warriors (14-3-2, 7-1-2) will host the Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) Eagles (13-3-3, 7-1-2) this coming Saturday.

Though not ranked in the most recent (Nov. 15) Coaches’ Top 25-Poll, the Eagles earned an automatic bid into the National Tournament when they tied UC Merced and then advanced in penalty kicks (5-4) in the California Pacific Conference Championship game.

Their head coach is Todd Poitras and it is his eighth season coaching the women. The team’s top goal scorer is freshman forward Krista Lee with 11 goals on the season. The team is also led by senior forward Kalyn Goodenough who is second on the team in goals (9), assists (5), and points (23). Last season, Goodenough was named CalPac Player of the Year.

The Warriors and Eagles have only played each other once prior to this upcoming game. They met in October of 2006 and the Warriors prevailed with a score of 4-0.

The Eagles and the Warriors have had four common opponents this season: Arizona Christian University, Hope International University, The Master’s College, and Soka University.

The Eagles defeated Arizona Christian 2-0 who Westmont defeated 5-0. The Eagles lost to Hope International 0-2 who Westmont defeated twice by scores of 3-0 and 2-0. The Eagles fell to The Master’s 2-3 who Westmont defeated 2-1. The Eagles conquered Soka University twice by scores of 3-1 and 1-0 who Westmont defeated 4-0.

The game will be at 12:00 p.m. this coming Saturday on Thorrington Field. Westmont faculty/staff and their families will get in for free along with Westmont students. General admission will be $8, students from other schools will be $3, and anyone under the age of 14 will get in for free.
