Westmont to Close out 2015 with Basketball

NAIABasketballEverything is quiet on the Westmont College campus as faculty, staff and students enjoy the week off – all except those associated with the school’s highly ranked basketball teams. On Tuesday and Wednesday, both the second-ranked women’s program and the 14th ranked men’s program will host their respective classics.

Second-ranked Westmont Women’s Basketball (10-1) will host the Holiday Classic, now in its third year. The first game will tip off Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. with the Cascades of Fraser Valley in British Columbia (4-4) taking on the #19 Mustangs of The Master’s College (8-2). At 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Westmont will open up against the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales from Colorado (8-8).

Also beginning on Tuesday, #14 Westmont (9-3) will host the 40th Annual Tom Byron Classic – one of the oldest continually running collegiate basketball tournaments in California. This year’s edition of the Byron will include two first-year programs from the University of Antelope Valley and Life Pacific College in San Dimas.

At 3:00 p.m., Antelope Valley (5-6) will take on the Thunderbirds of British Columbia (11-3). In a match-up of teams with Warriors as mascots, Westmont will host Life Pacific (1-16) in a 7:30 p.m. game.

Wednesday’s Holiday Classic will feature Johnson & Wales taking on The Master’s at 1:00 p.m. and Westmont facing off with Fraser Valley at 5:30 p.m.

The Tom Byron Classic will begin with Antelope Valley and Life Pacific matching up at 3:00 p.m. and conclude with Westmont and British Columbia tipping off at 7:30 p.m.

General admission is $10 per day, which includes all four games. A two-day pass can be obtained for $15. Normal admission policies for Westmont faculty, staff and students are in effect.

Westmont Sports Network will provide a live internet broadcast of all eight games free of charge. The broadcasts can be accessed on the Westmont Athletics website at http://www.westmont.edu/sportsvideo. The same shows will be re-broadcast on Cox Cable channel 71 at a later date.

A live radio broadcast of the two games involving Westmont Men’s Basketball will be available in the Santa Barbara area at 7:30 each evening on KZSB, AM 1290.
