#15 Warriors Conquer #7 Hawks

In a well fought battle between two top ranked teams, #15 Westmont Men’s Tennis (4-2, 4-0 GSAC) prevailed against #7 San Diego Christian (4-1, 3-1) by a score of 5-4. This was San Diego Christian’s first loss of the season.

In singles play, the Warriors won four out of six matches playing at numbers one, two, four and six. At number one, Carl Lindqvist defeated Brendan Aguilar in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-2; at number two, Travis Kimsey defeated Alessandro Moriano 6-3, 6-2; at number four, Luke Whalen triumphed over Michael Rjazanov in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 6-1; and at number six, David Akin clinched a win over Joey Rivera in three close sets 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 7-6 (7-2).

Playing at number three, the Hawks’ Daniel Superlano defeated Christian Mathis 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) and at number five the Hawks’ Jan-Erik Iserman defeated Tommy Nightingale 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles play, the Hawks won two out of the three matches. Playing at number one, Aguilar and Superlano overcame Lindqvist and Kimsey 9-7, and at number three Iserman and Leonardo Urquidi defeated Jordan Strandness and Akin 8-6. At number two, Mathis and Whalen of Westmont defeated Moriano and Rjazanov 8-6.

The Warriors’ next match will be a non-conference match against Concordia (Irvine) in Irvine March 8 at 2:00 p.m.
