Warriors Upset by Lewis-Clark State College

Ninth ranked Westmont Men’s Tennis (6-6, 5-1 GSAC) suffered their first conference loss when they were upset by #20 Lewis-Clark State College (7-6, 2-1 GSAC) yesterday afternoon. Lewis-Clark State defeated the Warriors by a score of 5-4.

In singles play each team won three matches. For Westmont, Carl Lindqvist, Travis Kimsey, and Christian Mathis each earned a point. Playing at number one, Lindqvist defeated Yonas Woldetsadik 6-1, 6-3; at number three, Kimsey overcame Ignacio Salom in three sets 1-6, 6-3, 7-6; and at number four, Mathis conquered Andres Bustani 6-1, 6-3.

For Lewis-Clark State, Quentin Wacquez, Jeff Su, and Alexandre D’aboville each earned a point. Playing at number two, Wacquez was triumphant over Luke Whalen in three sets 7-5, 4-6, 7-6; at number five, Su defeated David Akin 6-1, 6-2; and at number six, D’aboville defeated Jordan Strandness 6-2, 6-3.

Doubles play was just as competitive. However, Lewis-Clark State came out on top and won two out of the three matches. Playing at number three, Salom and D’aboville of Lewis-Clark State defeated Akin and Strandness; at number two, Westmont’s Mathis and Whalen defeated Wacquez; and at number one, Woldetsadik and Su of Lewis-Clark State clinched a victory over Lindqvist and Kimsey defeating them 9-8 (4).

With only three games remaining in GSAC play, Westmont is in first place in the conference.

This coming Saturday, Westmont will travel to El Cajon to play #11 San Diego Christian at 1:30 p.m.
