After falling in the championship match of the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament, #14 Westmont Men’s Tennis (9-8) waited until earlier this week to find out that they had received a number six At-large bid into the NAIA Men’s Tennis National Tournament.

In the opening round of the tournament, the Warriors will face #19 Bethany (Kan.) (13-3) from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Like the Warriors, Bethany was the regular season champions of the KCAC, but lost in the championship match of the KCAC Tournament. The Swedes received the number nine at-large bid into the tournament.

Bethany is coached by KCAC Coach of the Year Tony Swiantek. This is Swiantek’s second year as head coach and he has a total coaching record of 24-5.

The Swedes are led by KCAC Player of the Year, senior Manuel Raga from Maracay, Venezuela. Raga, who was also named as a member of the First Team All-KCAC team, went undefeated in number one singles with a record of 12-0. Additionally, Raga had a number one doubles record of 10-2.

Junior Juan Mateus from Cucuta, Columbia is also an important contributor for the Swedes. Mateus was named as a member of the First Team All-KCAC team and went undefeated in number two singles with a record of 13-0. Mateus had a doubles record of 8-5.

Last season, the Swedes lost to Vanguard 0-5 in the second round of the National Tournament.

The Warriors and the Swedes will face each other in the first round on Tuesday May 17 in Mobile, Alabama. The winner of this match will move on to the second round where they will face third ranked Xavier (La.) (14-7) on Wednesday May 18.
