Westmont Volleyball head coach Patti Cook has announced the signing of two recruits who will join the team for the 2016 season. Cassidy Rea, who hails from Ventura, played for the Bulldogs of Buena High School. Payton Trimm of Visalia played for Mt. Whitney High School.

“I am very excited to have these two outstanding individuals join our team,” said Cook. “They are both committed to excellence on the court and in the classroom and they understand what it looks like to represent a Christian college. The fact that they are both left-handed is very unique and it will be fun working with their style of play.”

A first team All-Channel League selection, Rea was a three-year varsity right-side hitter who served as team captain for two years. Rea, who was named to the All-Ventura County team, also played for the Ventura Volleyball Club for six years.

“It is always nice to have local players join our team,” said Cook. “Cassidy provides excellent height and presence at the net and will be a force to be reckoned with as she continues to develop her game. She is incredibly gifted in the classroom as well and has received the elite Augustinian scholarship.”

Trimm, who stands at 5-10, was an All-West Yosemite League selection and was named to the 2015 Times-Delta/Advance-Register All-Tulare County volleyball team. As a senior, Trimm posted a .310 attack percentage with 260 kills. She also played for the Bakersfield Volleyball Club.

“Payton is a versatile and gifted athlete,” noted Cook. “She has played middle for her club and has also seen some time on both pins. She plays with a focused demeanor and her athleticism allows her to play high above the net.”

The Warriors will open the 2016 campaign at the Biola Summer Slam on August 18 and 19 where Westmont will take on Eastern Oregon, Great Falls (Mont.), Montana Tech and College of Idaho. Westmont’s home opener will be on Friday September 16 in a Golden State Athletic Conference game against Arizona Christian.
