Peich Receives NAIA All-American Honorable Mention Recogniztion

Kristi PeichMidfielder Kristi Peich has earned NAIA All-American Honorable Mention recognition for her accomplishments on the soccer field this year.

Senior Kristi Peich from Claremont, California recorded six goals and eight assists during the 2004-05 campaign. With 30 assists, Peich ties for third with Kristi Sullivan (2001-03) and Stephanie Herivel (1996-99) in Westmont’s record books for career assists. Sandra Asimos (1984-87) leads the career assists category with 34 while Nicole Smith (1992-95) recorded 32.

Lindsey Wilson Defeats the Warriors 1-0

Despite intense play and great effort, the season came to an end tonight for Westmont Women’s Soccer. The Warriors fell to top-seeded Lindsey Wilson in the second round of the NAIA National Championships. The Warriors did a supurb job holding the Blue Raiders’ offense in check. Misty Plumb had a remarkable game at defender, especially in the first half, as she simply outbattled her opponent for position and possession.

Warriors Defeat Mary (N.D.) in First Round

In a first round game which took place just after the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship Opening Ceremonies, the Warrior recorded a decisive 4-0 victory over the University of Mary (N.D.). Katie Rhodes recorded a hat trick (her second of the season) and added an assist to lead the Warrior’s offensive attack. Jessica Schoepke scored the first goal of the game on a pass from Katie Rhodes in the 28th minute. Rhodes’ first goal came in the 41st minute off a shot by Kristi Peich which was touched by the Mary defender and deflected off the cross bar. In the second half, Rhodes scored twice, first on an assist from Anna Gropp, and then off a corner kick from Gropp which, Schoepke diverted perfectly to a waiting Rhodes.

Women’s Soccer Plays Wednesday

The Warriors learned today they are seated #17 in the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship, hosted by Westmont College. The Warriors will play the University of Mary (N.D.) in a first round game. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. and follows the Opening Ceremonies which begins at 6:45 p.m.

A victory on Wednesday will mean that the Warriors will play against #1 seed Lindsay Wilson. Lindsay Wilson and Westmont last met up in the 2003 Championship - a match which Westmont won in the seventh overtime period. The second round game of the 2004 tournament will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 18th.

Warrior Foursome Named to Women’s Soccer All-GSAC Team

Kristi PeichKatie CatesKatie SchickJane WycheFor the third time in her Westmont career, senior midfielder Kristi Peich has been named to the Women’s Soccer All-Golden State Athletic Conference Team. Peich, of Claremont, California, leads the Warrior this year in assists with seven and has scored six goals. Currently fifth on Westmont’s career assist list with 29, Peich was also honored as an all-conference player in her freshman and junior years. In those years she was also selected as team MVP. “Kristi has fantastic touch on the ball, the best I’ve ever seen,” remarked Head Coach Dan Ribbens. “She has game saavy and provides great leadership to our team both on and off the field.”

#21 Westmont Ousted from Regionals on PKs

The Eagles of Concordia (8-7-2) pulled of an upset on Russ Carr Field, knocking off the Warriors on penalty kicks in todays NAIA Region II first round game. After regulation ended in a 1-1 tie and two overtime periods proved to be fruitless, Concordia won the shootout four goals to three.

Senior midfielder Kristi Peich scored the games first goal with about two and one-half minutes to go in the first half. Fellow senior Katie Cates passed the ball to Peich on the right side who launched it into the high left hand corner for the goal. With ten minutes left in regulation, Ashley Pavlovich evened the score for the Eagles on a chip shot from 5 yards away. Amy Ross assisted on the goal. Though both teams had opportunities to score in the overtime periods, neither team was able to finish.

Women’s Soccer To Open Playoffs at Home

The Warriors will play in the first round of the NAIA Region II Championships at home on Wednesday, taking on the Eagles of Concordia. Game time is 1:00 p.m. The Warriors, who were seeded fourth in the six team regional, were granted the home game based on a 2-1 head-to-head victory over the fifth seeded Eagles on October 19th. With a win on Wednesday, the Warriors would most likely play at top seeded Azusa Pacific in the second round on Saturday.

Based on the Longo rating system used to determine seeding, Azusa Pacific received the top seed in the regional despite losing to Biola in the regular season. Notre Dame de Namur was seeded second. Both first and second seed teams have first round byes. Biola was seeded third and will host sixth seeded Fresno Pacific in first round action.

Warriors Win On Senior Day

After recognizing the Warrior’s three seniors (Kristi Peich, Katie Cates and Naomi Cavaliere) for their four years of contributions to Westmont Women’s Soccer, the Warriors went on to defeat Vanguard 3-2 in an single overtime game.

The Warriors scored first in the contest in the 32nd minute when Jessica Schoepke crossed from the right side to Jane Wyche who scored from 5 yards out. The Lions responded just four minutes later as Madison Perry drove down the field and scored to even the game at one.
