Westmont Triumphs Over #19 Concordia

Submitted by: Ron Smith - October 19th, 2004

“We played a great first half of soccer,” said Head Coach Dan Ribbens. “Our possessions were outstanding.” Still, the first half ended in a scoreless tie as Westmont battled #19 Concordia (6-6-1, 5-2).

The game’s first goal came just two minutes into the second half. “We had a defensive lapse,” explained Ribbens. “The goal went against the play of the game.” The Eagles’ Amber Cappello found herself one-on-one with Warrior’s keeper Emalia Cornwell and initiated the scoring with the goal. Cornwell recorded ten saves in the game.

Submitted by: Ron Smith - October 16th, 2004

Jane Wyche scored all three goals for the Warriors in a 3-0 victory over Christian Heritage (8-5-1, 1-5) at Russ Carr Field. The sophomore from Huntington Beach scored all of her goals by heading the ball into the net off crosses on set plays.

The game’s first goal came in the fourth minute when senior Kristi Peich booted a penalty kick from the right side toward Wyche who was waiting on the left side of the goal. At the twelve minute mark, sophomore Anna Gropp lofted a corner kick which Wyche finished for the score. Senior Katie Cates assisted on the final goal in the 78th minute, which also came off a corner kick. Westmont had a nine to one advantage on corner kicks.

Submitted by: Ron Smith - October 13th, 2004

Sophomore Katie Rhodes had a hot foot at The Master’s College (6-4-1, 1-3) as she recorded three goals to lead the Warriors to a 4-0 victory. Rhodes, who scored the majority of her goals unassisted, now leads the Warriors with six goals on the season.

Jessica Shoepke scored the Warriors second goal off an assist by Kayla Crandall. “Kayla deserves a lot of credit at central defender,” said Head Coach Dan Ribbens. “She has been playing through pain but giving us a solid performance in the middle and winning balls in the air.”

Women’s Soccer Suffers Difficult Loss at Redlands

Submitted by: Ron Smith - September 15th, 2004

A look at the stat sheet makes it difficult to understand the scoreboard. Despite outshooting the Bulldogs 29-4, the Warriors dropped their record to 2-3 in losing a double overtime game to Redlands 2-1. The Warriors’ dominance of the game included an 8-3 advantage on corner kicks but they could not turn the opportunities into goals.
