KATHY LESAGE

Head Women’s Tennis Coach

Having completed her twenty-second season as head coach of Westmont Women’s Tennis, Kathy LeSage brings a wealth of experience and wisdom to the team which is matched only by her enthusiasm and devotion.

LeSage’s teams have won 11 District titles and have claimed 11 Golden State Athletic Conference championships. With a career record of 248-215 (.536), her teams have produced 12 top-20 national finishes and 16 athletes have received NAIA All-American honors. LeSage also coached the Westmont Men’s Tennis team from 1990-1992.

While playing for Westmont, LeSage won the NAIA District III singles championships both in 1983 and 1984. She was also the District doubles champion in 1983. Her teams won the District championship both years, finishing ninth and fifth, respectively, at the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City. LeSage was named to the All-American squad in 1984 when she reached the singles quarter-finals. She was also named the 1984 "Senior Player of the Year" by the ITCA.

Prior to coming to Westmont, she was named MVP for Santa Barbara City College in 1977.

LeSage joined coach Chris Milner as an assistant in 1985, and assumed the role of head coach in the 1987 season. She has been honored as the District III and Regional "Coach of the Year" eight times and in 1994 was recognized as the Wilson NAIA National Coach of the Year. LeSage also serves as Director of Intramurals during the fall semester. LeSage was an inaugural inductee into Westmont’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

President of the NAIA Tennis Coaches Association from 1994-95, LeSage served as the NAIA Women’s Tennis Ranking Committee Chair from 1991-2000. LeSage has been a member of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Women’s Tennis Ranking Committee since 2001 and is one of nine national rankers for women’s tennis.  She also serves as the Golden State Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Chair and has been on the NAIA All-American selection committee which is based on ITA Rankings.

LeSage completed her undergraduate work at Westmont in Physical Education in 1985, and received a Master’s Degree in Education from Azusa Pacific in 1987. LeSage serves as an professor in Westmont’s Kinesiology department. Among the courses she teaches are First Aid/CPR, Fundamentals of Movement, and Leadership and Self-Defense for Women along with an array of physical education courses.

LeSage and her husband, Don, are the parents of 10-year-old daughter, Olivia.
