Slow Progress Being Made

May 19th, 2006

There were some encouraging developments during the Montecito Planning Commission hearing, May 17. Westmont continues to seek support of its approved campus Master Plan update that will improve facilities for the existing 1,200 students.

Many of the commissioners expressed approval of Westmont’s “Phase One” plans which include the building of badly needed new residence halls.

The commission also gave direction to the Montecito Board of Architectural Review (MBAR) to plan for the square footage that Westmont has applied for. Even after the proposed construction, Westmont’s campus will have more than 80 acres of open space and landscaping.

The MBAR will hold a hearing, Monday, May 22, at 5 p.m., in the Montecito Community Hall & Library, at 1469 East Valley Road.

There will also be a special hearing with the Montecito Planning Commission, Friday, June 2, at 9 a.m., at the commission room at 123 East Anapamu Street.
