Exciting Changes to Campus Master Plan

June 29th, 2006

Top Westmont officials continue to meet with local architects David Van Hoy, Ken Radtkey and other members of the design team as they draft a fresh, new plan for Westmont’s campus. After asking for a 60-day pause last May, the team has been working to better meet the needs of the college while responding to the comments from county decision-makers. Officials have yet to release details of the new plans, but they say that all the new buildings will be sited to blend in with the current landscape.

“We’re working to nestle the buildings into the landscape of this wonderful site,” says Randy Jones, director of campus planning. “It’s not just about planting more trees and adding green space around buildings. It’s about enhancing the landscape and placing buildings so you’ll only be able to see the buildings through the trees.”

Westmont submitted an update to its approved Campus Master Plan six years ago, but did not receive feedback and comments from county decision-makers on it until recently. By listening to some of the recommendations, architects are creating a whole new plan that will better serve the college for years to come.
