STRIKER TRIDENT PROGRAM SENDS USAF MISSILEERS TO WORK WITH NAVY

U.S. Air Force Capts. John Mayer and Patrick McAfee, recently completed various training programs, spread over the course of three months, in preparation for their final destination: assignments with the Navy. The new assignments are part of the dual-service exchange program between the Air Force and Navy, dubbed Striker Trident by Air Force Global Strike Command. … McAfee graduated from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington, and Mayer is an alumni of Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. more

MBK: Westmont overtaken down the stretch

Westmont missed some shots down the stretch and came up short against Cal State Dominguez Hills, 73-65, in a nonconference men’s basketball game on Friday night in Carson.

“I think we played a nice game for a good portion of the time, we just couldn’t close the door,” Westmont coach John Moore said. “We had a few six- and eight-point leads, but I think our inexperience came back to haunt us. We had a couple of missed free throws and layups.” …more

IIT Chicago-Kent Advances to The National Moot Court Competition Finals in New York

Third-year IIT Chicago-Kent students Iman Boundaoui and John Jefferson will represent the law school in the National Moot Court Competition national finals in New York February 9 to 12, 2015. The IIT Chicago-Kent team won the regional tournament held November 8 and 9 at Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee, with Jefferson receiving individual honors as the competition’s best oral advocate. … Winning team member Iman Boundaoui completed her undergraduate education in political science at Northwestern University. Teammate John Jefferson received a degree in English literature from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. more

Recital at MSU Billings Nov. 23

Montana State University Billings music major Danielle May Staffileno will perform her senior recital on Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. in Cisel Recital Hall. …  A Senior High School graduate, Staffileno began her study of music at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif. She studied in the fall of 2012 at Wesley Institute in Sydney, Australia. She will complete her bachelor’s degree in general music from MSUB. more

WSoc: Westmont opens NAIA tourney against Ottawa

Westmont women’s soccer team, ranked fourth in the final NAIA National Coaches Poll, has been seeded seventh in the NAIA National Championship and will host Ottawa of Kansas (12-2-6) in an opening-round game on Saturday. Kick-off has been scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Braves have not lost since September 24 when they fell 2-0 to Baker (Kan.) – the only common opponent between Westmont and Ottawa. Westmont defeated Baker 2-0 on August 30 in a game played on Thorrington Field. …more

Viewing at Westmont Observatory to Feature Celestial Heart, Owl and Christmas Tree

This month’s public viewing of the stars will feature astronomical glimpses of a heart, owl and a Christmas tree on Friday, Nov. 21, beginning after 6:30 p.m. and lasting for several hours at the Westmont Observatory.

The free event is held every third Friday of the month in conjunction with the Santa Barbara Astronomical Unit. In case of inclement or overcast weather, please call the Telescope Viewing Hotline at 805.565.6272 and check the Westmont website to see if the viewing has been canceled. more
