GHENO, Sr., Peter Dante

Peter Dante Gheno Sr., 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with recurrent pancreatic cancer. He was welcomed into heaven by his son, Peter Dante Gheno Jr. (Rocky), on October 7, 2016… That led Peter to a career with Santa Barbara Research and eventually to a wonderful position at Westmont College, where he retired in 2008. more

Freshman pulling some strings for Gauchos

UCSB is looking for a fresh start after Saturday’s season-opening loss to Omaha, and so it will start a freshman against USF tonight in a men’s basketball game at the Thunderdome… The Gauchos are glad to have received a glimpse of the Princeton offense two weeks ago when they scrimmaged their NAIA neighbor, Westmont College. more

Carroll College soccer aiming to extend season in NAIA opening round

A year ago David Thorvilson and the Carroll College women’s soccer team traveled to Spring Arbor, Mich. for the opening round of the NAIA national tournament… Carroll (12-3-5) travels to California to meet No. 10 Westmont (16-3-0) for the rights to advance to the on-site national tournament in Orange Beach, Ala. more

It turns out that 10 was perfect for the SBCC women’s water polo team on Saturday… Westmont wrapped up play in the Santa Clarita-based torunament with a 106-84 victory over Embry-Riddle. more

Saturday’s Veterans Day Parade pays respect to generations of veterans

If anyone had forgotten or been unaware of Saturday’s Veterans Day Parade, at high noon the skies over State Street issued a dramatic wake-up call reminder… Another special event after the parade was a concert in the Memorial Building, featuring the Westmont Orchestra conducted by Michael Shasberger, and the choir from the private Providence High School. more

Veterans Day events planned through weekend

Patriotic public events kicked off Thursday and continue this weekend throughout Santa Barbara… A salute to veterans concert will follow from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building, featuring music from the Westmont Orchestra, led by Dr. Michael Shasberger. more
