Mary Kerby remembered being comforted when her son, Jared, was born premature at 26 weeks… He added that the hospital last year hired its first vice president of research and is working to expand collaborations between the hospital’s physicians and researchers at UCSB, Santa Barbara City College and Westmont College. more

Connor McManigal Hits Grand Slam in Westmont Win

A grand slam by former Santa Barbara High standout Connor McManigal and back-to-back RBI doubles by Michael Stefanic and Luke Coffey in the eighth powered Westmont to a 10-7 victory over the Mariners of Marymount on Tuesday afternoon at Russ Carr Field. more

Corralejo wins state title; Del Oro girls take fourth

The long road to the CIF State Girls Wrestling Tournament ended in Visalia last  weekend, and for the Del Oro Lady Eagles, the effort by the Black and Gold was put into two vivid words by coach Mike Maben… Corralejo is not the only one with a bright future. Del Oro seniors Burrage and Serena Morales will head to Gray’s Harbor College in Washington to continue their education and wrestling careers, Scott will be going to Westmont College in Santa Barbara on a soccer scholarship. Corralejo and Beavers will return next season. more

LOCAL ROUNDUP: Gauchos fall in Nutter finale

The 10th-ranked Warriors improved to 2-1 in Golden State Athletic Conference play (3-2 overall) with a road win over the No. 13 Hawks, in a match rescueduled from earlier this month due to rains. Christian Mathis, John T. Joens, Tommy Nightingale and Luke Barnard, the Warriors’ bottom four seeds, all scored wins in singles, while Mathis and Luke Whalen won in doubles to secure the win. more

Water Polo and Postseason Basketball Focus at Monday Press Luncheon

No. 6 Westmont heads into postseason play with the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament being held this Friday and Saturday at the Master’s College in Santa Clarita… Similar to their female counterparts, the No. 16 Westmont men are looking forward to postseason play beginning this weekend. more

Aysia Shellmire’s 17 points paced the Warriors in a Golden State Athletic Conference victory over the Hawks. Aimee Bracken added 13 points in the win for Westmont (24-4, 13-3), while Cora Chan had 11 points and Lauren McCoy 10 points. more

LOCAL ROUNDUP: Westmont’s Hartmann pitches gem

Fans of high-powered offensive baseball were thwarted at Westmont’s Russ Carr Field on Friday. The starting pitchers in the Golden State Athletic Conference game between the Warriors, and the Eagles of Biola made sure things were clamped down. Westmont’s Jake Hartmann outdueled Biola’s Jimmy Gallarda in a 1-0 Warriors victory, improving the hosts to 1-1 in GSAC play (7-3 overall). more

Gerald Carpenter: Westmont Theater Stages ‘Blood Wedding’

The next two weekends, the Westmont College Festival Theatre will present a new production of Blood Wedding (1932), by the Spanish poet and playwright, Federico García Lorca (1898-1936). Blood Wedding plays at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24-25 and March 2-4, in Westmont’s Porter Theatre. more
