Faculty Awarded For Teaching, Scholarship And Service Excellence

Ten University of Scranton faculty members were honored recently with Provost Faculty Enhancement awards for excellence in teaching, scholarship or service… Rebecca S. Beal, Ph.D., received the Excellence in Adapting Classic Principles of Jesuit Pedagogy into the Curriculum: The Magis Award. This award is given to a faculty member who makes specific, sustained and creative efforts to adapt classic principles of Jesuit Pedagogy in courses. Dr. Beal, professor of English and theatre, joined the faculty at Scranton in 1983. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Westmont College, her master’s degree at the University of Chicago and her Ph.D. at the University of Texas. more

Details emerge about helicopter crash

The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary accident report on the May 5 helicopter crash at La Cumbre County Club that left three injured… The passengers of the aircraft, recent Westmont College graduate Courtney Crosby and 2016 graduate Turner Conrad, were released from the hospital May 18, according to college spokesman Scott Craig. more

Westmont Adds Data Analytics Major

Westmont students can now earn a bachelor’s degree in data analytics, a new and fast-growing way of understanding the world that is valued by employers. Professors in the Westmont mathematics, computer science, and economics and business departments collaborated in creating the new interdisciplinary major. more

Robert W. Hughes, longtime Mount Shasta, California psychologist and current executive director of Remi Vista, Inc., passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in Mount Shasta. He was 52…  He was raised in the Newport Beach area and attended Corona Del Mar High School, Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Antioch University and Fuller Seminary in Pasadena. more

Becky Collier Wins National Championship in Heptathlon for Second Straight Year

On the second day of the 2017 NAIA Men’s and Women’s Track and Field National Championship Becky Collier earned her second consecutive National Championship in the Heptathlon (her 14th All-American honor); and Pieter Top, Anthony Cota, and the Women’s 4×800 meter relay team (Anne Elise Brown, Hope Geisinger, Emily Parks, and Taryn Phipps), and each earned All-American honors. After the second day of the Women’s Heptathlon, Becky Collier earned her 14th All-American honor (a Westmont record) and her second consecutive National Championship with a score of 5,178 points ( a school record). more
