Ty Wiest, Brody Weiss Lead Foresters Past So Cal Catch, 9-5

Ty Wiest gave a dominating performance on the mound and Brody Weiss and Luke Ritter each hit two-run homers to power the Santa Barbara Foresters to a 9-5 win at the Southern California Catch on Tuesday in a California Collegiate League baseball game at Biola University. Weiss, out of Westmont, had big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a homer, double and three RBI. His double drove in Ashton Easley in the fourth inning for a 4-0 lead. more

Westmont College won the Golden State Athletic Conference’s All-Sports Award for the fifth straight year and finished eighth nationally in the NAIA in the competition for the Learfield Director’s Cup. more

CCL SUMMER BASEBALL: Weiss cracks homer as Foresters romp

Brody Weiss had three hits including a home run and a double to lead the Santa Barbara Foresters to a 9-5 victory over the So Cal Catch in a California Collegiate League game played at Biola University… Lee went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles in his Forester debut, and Weiss, an infielder from Westmont College, was also 3-for-5. more

A holding call at Peabody Stadium

Some of the sports stories in this town are so epic, you could set them to music. Here are a few that could draw an audience from Peabody Stadium to Pershing Park. The playing surface, seating and amenities at SBCC’s Pershing Park do need serious attention, but Forester manager Bill Pintard opted for those challenges instead than accepting offers to relocate to Westmont College or Ventura. more

The Master’s University Ranks 38th in NAIA’s Best Athletic Programs

At the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year, The Master’s University ranks 38th in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup, the list of the nation’s best NAIA athletic programs… Notably, only two other Golden State Athletic Conference institutions sit among the NAIA’s Top 25 schools as Westmont College finished eighth with 631.25 points, while Biola University placed 18th overall with 512 points. more

Carmen McCain: The Culture of Kannywood

Carmen McCain is an assistant professor of English at Westmont College. Her research focus is on Hausa-language literature, film and popular culture. Hausa is a language spoken by over 50 million people across West Africa. more

People on the Move

Ten faculty members were honored recently with Provost Faculty Enhancement awards for excellence in teaching, scholarship or service. Rebecca S. Beal, Ph.D., received the Excellence in Adapting Classic Principles of Jesuit Pedagogy into the Curriculum: The Magis Award. Beal, professor of English and theater, joined the faculty at Scranton in 1983. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Westmont College, her master’s degree at the University of Chicago and her Ph.D. at the University of Texas. more
