DP Honors Student-Athletes that Signed National Letters of Intent

Sixteen student-athletes were recognized in a signing ceremony at Dos Pueblos High School.

The Chargers celebrated their achievements in the classroom and in athletic competition.

DP senior athletes are headed to places like Stanford, USC, UCSB, Pepperdine, Westmont, Boston College and other great colleges. more

Westmont Hoops Return to Campus After National Runner-Up Finish

Family and friends saluted the Westmont men’s basketball team as they arrived back on campus around 8 p.m. on Wednesday night.

The Warriors are the NAIA National Champion Runner-up. After a string of upsets in Kansas City, Westmont College lost in the title game to Dalton State of Georgia 71-53. more

Mitchell is Out as UCSB Women’s Head Basketball Coach

Carlene Mitchell could not survive a 2-27 season and today UCSB announced that she is out as the women’s basketball coach. …Mitchell beat out Westmont College Head Coach Kirsten Moore for the job back in 2011. Since that time, Moore won an NAIA National Championship in 2013 for Westmont and she guided her team to the national semifinals this year. Moore will likely be a candidate this time around as well. more

High Winds Cause Damage At Westmont College

Strong wind gusts overnight caused some damage at Westmont College. Around 9 p.m., the windows and doors were vibrating at the library. “It sounds like a freight train when the wind really kicks up up here,” said Debra Quast, the library director. The high winds cracked one of the library windows as students were studying inside. more

Westmont Denied NAIA Championship by Dalton State

Westmont College missed Daniel Carlin and they missed their three-point shots as they lost in the NAIA Championship game 71-53 to Dalton State of Georgia.

Carlin managed to play just the first three minutes as he could not shake an illness that put him in the hospital during the day. Head Coach John Moore speculated that Carlin had food poisoning. more

Westmont Women’s Run Ends in NAIA Semifinals

Westmont College cut a 46-28 second half deficit to four points but their rally fell short and the Warriors lost 77-57 to Oklahoma City in a semifinal game at the NAIA National Tournament.

Kristin Karr scored a game-high 24 points as the Warriors got within 54-50 midway through the second half. But Oklahoma City regrouped and pulled away for the win. more

Westmont Men Advances to National Championship Game

The Warriors have gone where no Westmont College men’s basketball team has ever reached, the NAIA National Championship game.

Sophomore Cory Blau sank a jumper with 7.1 seconds left to give Westmont a thrilling 70-69 semifinal win over number one ranked Hope International. The Royals had beaten Westmont in two previous meetings in Golden State Athletic Conference games. more

Westmont College Wins GSAC Tournament Opener

Senior Daniel Carlin showed his senior leadership and why he was named ALL-GSAC this year. He made 13 of 17 shots as he scored a team-high 29 points to lead Westmont College to an 89-75 first round win in the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament. more

Teens Learn About Healthy Relationships

In honor of National Teen Dating Violence Prevention Awareness Month, teens have been taught about love. Christy Haynes has been teaching students at area high schools during a program called “What Is Love.” …Haynes invited college students from UCSB and Westmont to mentor teens. more

Jupiter Jumps Into View This Month

Glance up at the sky this month and you could get a chance to see the planet Jupiter. The gas giant will be featured at Westmont Observatory’s free public viewing on Friday at 6:30 p.m. more
