The Westmont women’s basketball team traveled to Uganda on a mission trip over the summer and learned of the tremendous needs in the areas they visited.
“It changed everyone that went. It really changed our lives seeing what we saw and experiencing what we experienced,” said Westmont coach Kirsten Moore at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon. “There were so many ways we wanted to help and give back. We saw so many needs while we were over there. The one we unanimously felt passionate about was a buying a cow, or two or three for this village in northern Uganda, where they have this goal on a farm of starting a dairy. They have one and their goal is to get six.” more
Led by a balanced hitting attack and terrific defense, top-seeded Laguna Blanca won 25-11, 25-15, 16-25, 25-19 at Westmont College’s Murchison Gym. Westmont captured a pair of games this weekend at the Bud Presley Classic at Menlo College. The Warriors defeated Southern Oregon University, 48-45, on Saturday after topping Cal Maritime, 76-66, on Friday.

(Charlotte, N.C) In the NAIA Cross Country National Championships held in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Westmont Women’s and Men’s Cross Country Teams placed tenth and eighteenth respectively out of 36 men’s and women’s teams. Each team placed higher than the final Top-25 Coaches Poll ranking they held prior to the race – the men jumped from 26 to 18 and the women from 13 to 10. more
A quartet of Westmont Warriors has been named to the 2015 All-Golden State Athletic Conference Team. The recipients are:
· Senior defender Blake Joyner of Santa Ynez
· Senior midfielder Muhammad Mehai of Carpinteria
· Junior midfielder Wilton Quintero of Temple City
· Senior midfielder Tanner Wolf of Santa Barbara
“I thought Blake was deserving of selection last year and didn’t receive it. For him to cap off his career with this recognition is terrific,” said Westmont head coach Dave Wolf. more
Santa Barbara Soccer Club’s Under-17 boys had never played before such a large hometown crowd. But all the fans weren’t pulling for them — many came to see their opponent, Mexico’s national U-17 team. …UCSB’s men host their annual exhibition match against Westmont College at 7 p.m. Saturday, August 22. On Friday, August 28, Stanford will face the Gauchos at Harder Stadium. more
A pair of first half goals by UC Santa Barbara was enough as the Gauchos posted a 2-0 exhibition win over visiting Westmont College on Thursday evening.
UCSB got on the board first with an own goal at the 19:02 mark of the first half. The Gauchos cracked a corner kick and Westmont’s defensive unit tried to punch it out, but the ball deflected off of a defenders head and into the goal, making the score 1-0. more
Mexico has won the FIFA U17 World Cup twice in the last decade and will be going for a third championship this fall in Chile. Santa Barbara’s U17 boys team has claimed two titles in the U.S. Youth Soccer Championships and reached the semifinals this year. Tim Heiduk (Dos Pueblos High/Westmont College) is one of three college-bound players on the home team. more
