There wasn’t much left of a Santa Barbara tour helicopter that crashed and burned May 5 at La Cumbre Country Club in Hope Ranch. Somehow, the pilot and his two passengers survived, and, boy, will they have a tale to tell… Conrad, who is from Hermosa Beach, is a 2016 graduate of Westmont College and a former first baseman on the Warriors’ baseball team. Crosby, from Manhattan Beach, was a defensive specialist on Westmont’s powerhouse women’s volleyball team, which went undefeated in the 2016 regular season and won the Golden State Athletic Conference championship before falling in the NAIA tournament quarterfinals. more

WASHINGTON WINS MEET

Washington School finished ahead of seven other Santa Barbara elementary schools on Monday at a local track and field meet held at the Westmont College track. More than 200 students from Roosevelt, McKinley, Adams, Cleveland, Franklin, Monroe, Harding and Washington elementary schools competed in a dozen events. more

Washington School Wins SB Unified School District Track & Field Meet

More than 200 students from eight local elementary schools competed at the fifth annual All-Santa Barbara Unified School District Elementary Schools Track & Field Meet at the Westmont track on Tuesday… Westmont track and field athletes, who are competing at the Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala., May 25-27, timed and measured the events.  more

Westmont Graduates, Pilot Recovering After Hope Ranch Helicopter Crash

The pilot and two passengers of a tour helicopter that crashed in Hope Ranch on Friday are recovering from the ordeal after being taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital… The two Westmont alumni traveling with him, Courtney Crosby and Turner Conrad, were listed in fair condition. more

Westmont sends off Class of 2017

Even at an early May graduation ceremony in normally sunny Santa Barbara, a little rain is going to come sometimes.

So it came to pass Saturday morning at Westmont College held its annual commencement on its vast track field.

Somehow, the weather conditions at the respected 79-year-old Christian college in Montecito seemed to intensify the dedication to the occasion and the pomp, circumstance and due respect from those involved, as the precipitation morphed from mist to actual rain and back. more
