Instruments Taking Shape In Hands of Santa Barbara Craftsman

The Hubert Schwyzer Quartet, a unique ensemble of instruments commissioned by Westmont College, is taking shape under the hands of master violin maker James Wimmer at his workshop in Santa Barbara. Named for a former UCSB philosophy professor and cellist, the quartet will be used by Westmont faculty and students during the school year and loaned to the Music Academy of the West in the summer months. more

MACE, John Sutton

With family and friends by his bedside, John Sutton Mace of Lompoc, CA was called home to be with his Lord on Monday, June 23, 2008 at the age of 78.  He was born in San Jose, CA on October 31, 1929 to Dr. Calver and Mrs. Harriet Mace. John graduated from Westmont College in Santa Barbara and received his teaching credential through Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. more

People in Business: Casey Cobell has been named Rogue Valley Manor Foundation director

Casey Cobell, a Westmont graduate, was previously executive director of the John Stott Global Initiative, where he directed the organization’s largest ever capital campaign. He is currently the chairman of the Summit Adventure Board of Directors, and recently served on the American Indian Health and Services board. more

COLE, Thelma

Thelma died from cancer complications, on July 3, 2008, at Valle Verde. In Santa Barbara, her friendships were especially abundant in the Free Methodist Church, the Westmont College community, and in the Valle Verde Retirement Community, where she has lived for twelve years. more

Robin Eley is an Australian illustrator based in Adelaide. Eley was born in the UK, raised in Australia and trained in the U.S. at Westmont College and the Illustration Academy. more

Milestone: Gaede-Van Mourick wedding

Kirsten Lynn Gaede, raised in Hamilton, married Topher James Van Mourick of Dana Point, Calif., on June 7, 2008, at a 4 p.m. double-ring ceremony at Corona del Mar Congregational Church in Corona del Mar, Calif. The bride and groom were members of the Westmont College Class of 2006. more

The National Association of Schools of Music Commission on Accreditation has granted associate membership to Westmont College after a four-year review process. NASM, founded in 1924, is an organization of more than 600 colleges and universities that establishes national standards for degrees and credentials. more

Bethel's longtime president steps down after 26 years

The end of an era took place July 1 when longtime Bethel University President George Brushaber retired. In 1972, he became vice president and academic dean, and professor of philosophy and religious studies at Westmont. more
