Display of Student Projects a ‘Celebration of Science Research’

More than 30 Westmont College students will show off their summer research projects at 4 p.m. Sept. 11 in the Founders Dining Room. “A Celebration of Science Research” will include a student’s work determining the orbit of an asteroid between Mars and Jupiter, as well as another student’s work investigating cognitive impairment among older adults. more

Going South: Art off the Wall

Down the winding road and through the quiet, canopied pathways of Montecito, Italian restaurant Piatti in the Upper Village has formed an artistic partnership with John Carlander, longtime painter and professor of art at Westmont College. more


Mallory Farrar, 18, was presented with the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouts, during a recent ceremony. She’ll soon be attending Westmont College. more

Cuts, A Musical Docu-Comedy!

Directed by Westmont Theater graduate Casey Caldwell, Cuts focuses on the poignant and silly stories people share about their hair. The play is based on real-life interviews conducted by Caldwell and his cast (Sarah Halford, Marie Ponce, and Nolan Hamlin), combined with original choreography and songs by Greg Wadsworth. more

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at Cottage Hospital following a short illness. She was a 45-year resident of Santa Barbara County, having worked at Westmont College and Sentry Insurance before joining the American Family Services organization in Ventura, serving as its President for the past 15 years. more

“CUTS,” a documentary theater piece about hair, will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Center Stage Theater, upstairs at Paseo Nuevo. Directed by Westmont theater graduate Casey Caldwell, the show focuses on the poignant and silly stories people share about their hair. more

COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Domenichelli wins 5K at Lagoon Open

It was a muggy morning under the marine layer out at the UCSB Lagoon. Still, good conditions for the first Cross Country meet of the season. Westmont also was a participant in the race, with Lisa Griego’s mark of 18:57 good enough for 12th place. In the women’s team results UCSB took first place, with Cal Poly in second and Westmont third. more

Diversity and academic excellence

The 333 members of the class of 2012 arrive at Westmont College this week. This incoming class is one of the most talented academically, but also one of the most diverse. There are 111 students of color, a third of the freshman class, and an overall 33% of underrepresented groups. more

ESCONDIDO: Church starts food distribution system

In a matter of just six weeks, an Escondido church has developed —- from scratch —- a food distribution system that on Saturday evening served more than 100 needy people in Escondido. “As part of a senior project at school, we students were to find a way to serve in our community,” said Graaff, an incoming freshman at Westmont College in Santa Barbara. more
