David Winter, president emeritus of Westmont College, has assumed the role of interim headmaster at Providence Hall, a Christian preparatory high school in Santa Barbara. Winter, 77, served 25 years as the president of Westmont untill 2001. more

Retired Westmont President Tapped To Lead Year-Old Providence Hall

Providence Hall, Santa Barbara’s only Protestant high school, has hired former Westmont College President David Winter to lead the year-old school on an interim basis, officials announced Thursday. Winter, 77, served as Westmont president from 1976 to 2001, and joined Providence Hall’s board of directors four months ago. He said he had no intention of being the school’s headmaster. more

WESTMONT NETS A MODERNIZED GYM FLOOR

Several hundred youngsters who arrive for a basketball camp in less than two weeks will be the first to play on Westmont’s new state-of-the-art court in Murchison Gym. Workers are putting the finishing touches on the floor, including lines and a half-court logo are being painted on the floor over the next several days. more

Banks playing it safe in real estate lending

Kenneth Jacobsen, vice president and the newly appointed Santa Barbara and Ventura county market manager for Rabobank, N.A., said his company is “being selective and cautious” about the deals it is making right now, both “to protect the bank and to protect our clients’ interests.” He earned a bachelor’s degree in business and economics from Westmont College. more

Contestants Prepare for Miss California

This year four ladies from the North County will vie for the title of Miss California Mid-State Fair. Ashley Greenawalt , a Santa Margarita resident, will be attending Westmont College and plans to major in biology. more

Westmont Gym Gets New Floor

A new state-of-the-art court in Westmont College’s Murchison Gym is receiving finishing touches from workers this week. Funded through donations, the new hardwood floor will be accented by new bleachers, glass and doors in the lobby. more
