Cold Springs—East Fork

This is absolutely my very favorite trail. The trail is reached either from Sycamore Canyon Road near the Milpas area, or Hot Springs Road in Montecito. From Highway 101, drive up Milpas Street to Montecito Street. Turn right and follow it to Sycamore Canyon and continue up this for 2 miles (it becomes Highway 192) to Cold Springs Road. Turn left (north), drive past Westmont College to Mountain Drive and then turn right and go a half mile east to the trailhead. more

Shoreview native Josh Collins, a 2003 graduate of Mounds View High School, is not like most 24-year-olds. Collins remembers the day he “stumbled” into the idea of creating SVF. He was in the process of earning his bachelor’s degree from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif., from which he graduated Cum Laude with a triple major in economics and business, communication studies, and social science. more

On the college cross-country front, Westmont’s Russell Smelley was at Harry’s to talk about both of his Warrior teams. Both the men’s and women’s teams are historically in the top 10 of NAIA national meet competitors, and have committed to be a balanced team that works in groups instead of as individuals. Both squads should be in the top 20 by the end of the week. more
