Musical Celebrations: Santa Barbara Master Chorale’s Annual Christmas Concert

Each year, the Santa Barbara Master Chorale — one of our city’s best community choral groups — puts on a Christmas concert, both to raise funds for other programs throughout the year and to spread some holiday cheer. The Westmont College Chamber Choir will also participate. more

Game-winner caps special night at Westmont

It was a big night for a small college and a big shot for a small point guard. Chris “C.J.” Jackson had only one basket in 34 minutes of playing time Saturday night, and he waited until the last second to make it. The 5-foot-9 junior pulled up for a 10-foot jumper with 1.6 seconds left to lift the Westmont men’s basketball team to a 63-61 win over Cal State San Bernardino with legendary coach Chet Kammerer in the audience. more

Santa Barbara Master Chorale’s Annual Christmas Concert

Each year, the Santa Barbara Master Chorale — one of our city’s best community choral groups — puts on a Christmas concert, both to raise funds for other programs throughout the year and to spread some holiday cheer. Volunteers audition for their spots in the group, ensuring a pretty high level of competence in the singers who participate, and this year’s concert is also a sing-along, giving the audience a chance to get in on the fun. The Westmont College Chamber Choir will also participate. more

MARK PATTON: Basketball is still kids' play for Kammerer

There was a lot of kid still left in Chet Kammerer when he coached basketball at Westmont College. Randy Pfund learned that the hard way after he signed up as an assistant, walking the halls with Kammerer at their Kansas City hotel during the NAIA National Tournament. “He’d start running and knocking on all the doors,” Pfund once pointed out, “and if you weren’t right behind, you’d get caught by the people opening the doors.” more

Westmont plan approved

California’s Second District Court of Appeal unanimously supported Westmont’s plan to update its campus facilities, reaffirming a December 2007 Santa Barbara County Superior Court ruling that upheld unanimous approvals by the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors and the Montecito Planning Commission. A three-judge panel issued its finding after hearing arguments in Santa Barbara Oct. 22. more

A Month After Fire, Support for Westmont Continues

Chris Call, vice president of Westmont College, says that he and the rest of the school community are grateful for the support they continue to receive a month after the wildfire that burned roughly 30 percent of the campus. “I don’t think anyone here is feeling like they’re going it alone,” says Call, who also serves as chair of the Montecito Covenant Church. “I have just felt upheld by prayer both physically and spiritually. I’ve seen this in others as well.” more

United Way Celebrates Campaign Season With Holiday Bash

United Way of Santa Barbara County hosted its annual Holiday Bash event on Wednesday at Fess Parker’s DoubleTree Resort. More than 170 guests gathered to celebrate the holiday season and get an update on United Way’s 2008‐09 Community Campaign.
