Westmont proposes 13-unit condo

With median home prices on the South Coast remaining out of the reach of even working-class professionals, Westmont College has proposed to build a 13-unit condominium at 505 W. Los Olivos St. that would begin with demolition of an existing 2,250-square-foot duplex, and a 2,400-square-foot single-family residence. more

Zanesville's Jenna Wilson leads the Miss Ohio field

The annual Miss Ohio Scholarship Program kicks off Wednesday at the Renaissance Theatre. Contestants include Miss Mansfield Christie Youssef, 22, of Canfield, Westmont College, cum laude graduate, bachelor of science, biology with a minor in chemistry. more

Recreation Roundup: Senior Track and Field

Santa Barbara’s Steve Wordell won the gold medal in the javelin at the California State Championships in senior track and field, held June 7 at Cal Tech in Pasadena. He trains once per week at the Westmont College track. more

After 26 years, the founding director of Westmont’s Reynolds Gallery, Tony Askew, has retired. Askew will be replaced by Judy L. Larson. more

SHHS Class of 2008 scholarship recipients

Dascia Skadal, Saint Helena High School graduate, has been awarded a Golden State Seal Merit Diploma, Westmont College Scholarship, SHHS Chorus Outstanding Vocalist, Cummings Family Scholarship, Wood Family Scholarship. more

UCSB Grad Student Nominated as UC Student Regent

UCSB graduate student Jesse Bernal he hopes to accomplish much as the next University of California Student Regent. Last week, Bernal, who got his bachelor degree from Westmont College and is now pursuing a doctorate in education at UCSB’s Gevirtz School, was nominated for the Student Regent position for 2009-2010 by the University of California Regents’ special committee. more

REECE, Sandra Lee

Sandra Lee Reece lost her courageous battle with cancer on May 29, 2008. Sandy graduated from San Marcos High School in 1966 and from Westmont College in 1970 with a BA in sociology. more
