Sizing up the past at SBHS

Some Santa Barbara High School athletes heard a great message over the clatter of the dishes they were busing during Saturday’s Ye Ole Gang banquet at the Page Center. Ron Shelton’s road to stardom as a writer, director and producer of some of history’s greatest sports films began in the Dons’ lockerroom during the fall of 1960 when he was a 5-foot-3, 97-pound sophomore trying out for the basketball team. He continued on to play both basketball and baseball at Westmont College, and later worked his way up to Triple-A Rochester of the Baltimore Orioles’ organization. more
