Hot product : Solar cooker wins trio top prize in Westmont Collegiate Business Plan competition

Three Westmont College students — Michael Guisti, Sammy Acosta and Garrett Floyd — calling themselves SOlutions Corp.– won Thursday’s 20th annual Westmont Collegiate Business Plan competition. Their winning idea is a prototype for a parabolic-shaped solar cooker for use in the Third World. Their concept would have the most applicability in parts of the globe where firewood is scare and fuels — such as propane — are expensive. A panel of judges suggested that the product also has a huge upside for the developed world, especially for campers and backup cookers for when the power goes out. more
