New campaign begins for defending champs

Lee Central Coast Newspapers All-Area Team MVP Sean Rowan helped pitch and hit Santa Ynez to the Los Padres League baseball title last year. This season, he’s playing his baseball for Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks. So is Todd Whitmore, another prominent Pirates pitcher last year. Power hitting catcher Evan Soliman is playing for Westmont College. more

Affinity refinances $144M in debt

Ventura-based Affinity Group, which faces nearly $700 million in debt payments in coming years, closed a deal for a new $144 million loan on March 3 to refinance debt due at the end of this month…Affinity Group is part of the business empire built by Montecito resident Stephen Adams…Adams is believed to be the anonymous donor who defaulted last year on a $75 million gift he made to Westmont College in 2006 more

If he hadn’t been a journalist for a world-renowned magazine or a New York Times best-selling author, Malcolm Gladwell might have found a niche in business, academia or the financial sector, among myriad other possibilities…On March 10, he’ll give a talk based on “Outliers” at the Arlington Theatre. It’s presented by UCSB Arts & Lectures, with support from Westmont College. more

Random Thoughts and Observations

With the calender turned to March and conference tournaments beginning this weekend, I thought it would be a good time for some random thoughts and observations…Westmont has been the second half darling in the Golden State winning big game after big game to place themselves currently inside the KC group. They can cement a bid and perhaps play themselves into seeding consideration if they knock off Azusa Pacific tonight. more
