Westmont alum to screen his ‘Calvin Marshall’ at Riviera

“Calvin Marshall,” a movie written and directed by Westmont alumnus Gary Lundgren ’93, premieres in Santa Barbara Sunday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the Riviera Theater, 2044 Alameda Padre Serra. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online by clicking here. Proceeds from the screening will support Westmont baseball. Gary and Anne (Malmberg) Lundgren ’95, who produced the movie, will be at the screening for a Q&A session following the film. more

Vanessa Crispin-Peralta: From powwow to PowerPoint

Under a New Mexico night sky, a young girl stands in the glow of the sacred fire amongst a crowd of hundreds. Around the fire, women in brightly colored regalia dance to the beat of drums, their “jingle dresses” creating music of their own with each step and swing…This memorable powwow was just one of many cultural events Professor Vanessa Crispin-Peralta was exposed to as a child…Crispin-Peralta teaches part-time at Moorpark as well as at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, and has previously taught at the University of California, Santa Barbara. more

Westmont to dedicate new observatory, athletic facilities

Westmont President Gayle D. Beebe along with the Board of Trustees will dedicate the college’s new observatory and athletic facilities at a free, public event Thursday, May 6. It will be held at 10:30 a.m. outside the observatory. more

Workshop Offers Three Days with Three Poets Laureate

Spend three days with three poets laureate during the 10th Annual Santa Barbara Summer Poetry Workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 31-Aug. 2 at Westmont College. The workshop is for all levels of poetry writers. Enrollment is limited to 25 to ensure generous attention to all. It is led by Perie Longo, Santa Barbara poet laureate 2007-09, with David Starkey current poet laureate, and Barry Spacks, Santa Barbara’s first poet laureate from 2005-07. more

Track meets on track thanks to Smelley, Latham

Putting on a track meet can be exhausting work, but it was a welcomed task for Russell Smelley and the Westmont Athletics Department this past weekend. The Warriors got to put their new state-of-the-art track facility on display to the rest of the Golden State Athletic Conference as they hosted the conference championships. Smelley reported that everything went smoothly at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon. more

Six more Falcons take collegiate flights

Among a large number of athletes from a variety of athletics programs at Highlands Ranch High School to sign national letters of intent to take their talents to the collegiate level, six more join the ranks. Mark Zoradi Joins IMAX Corporation as Strategic Advisor

IMAX Corporation today announced that industry veteran Mark Zoradi will begin working for the Company as a non-executive strategic advisor effective April 12, 2010. Based in Los Angeles, Mr. Zoradi will be available to advise on key issues in all areas of the Company, including film acquisition, distribution and marketing, as well as studio and exhibitor relationships. more

Mitchell Alumni Game back at Westmont

The annual Jeff Mitchell Alumni Baseball Game will return to Westmont High School on May 1. The game honors the memory of the former Westmont all-league baseball player who died in the line of duty as a sheriff’s deputy in Sacramento County. Proceeds from the game will go toward the construction of Deputy Jeff Mitchell Field in El Dorado Hills and also help fund a scholarship in his name. more
