Student show awards art scholarships

City College’s annual Student Show will open for viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Atkinson Gallery. For students, this art exhibition will be the biggest of the year…Dan Connally, professor at the College of Creative Studies at UCSB, will serve as the juror of the exhibit this year, following Judy Larson, director of the Reynolds Gallery at Westmont College, who was the juror in 2009. more

Westmont College announces new relationship with AT&T and new iPhone application

US liberal arts college Westmont College has forged a new relationship with US communications holding company AT&T by signing a University Advantage Program (UAP) contract and is announcing the availability of a new iPhone application for the college community, AT&T said. No financial details were disclosed. more

Gerald Carpenter: Music Club Continues Series of Free Concerts

The Santa Barbara Music Club’s series of free concerts continues this month with programs at 11 a.m. Wednesday and 3 p.m. April 24, both in the Santa Barbara Public Library’s Faulkner Gallery. The morning concert will feature oboist Ted Rust and pianist Viva Knight performing Robert Schumann’s Three Romances for Oboe and Piano, Opus 94 from 1849 and the Italian Dance for Oboe and Piano (1960) by British composer Madeleine Dring (1923-77)…The program will conclude with the Westmont Chamber Singers performing choral music from the Renaissance period to the present. more

Former Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Group President, Mark Zoradi will join the Board of Directors of newly formed Rave Cinemas, LLC, now the United States’ fifth largest theater exhibition chain. Mark Zoradi’s 30-year career at Disney spanned the television, home entertainment and film businesses…Zoradi holds an MBA in Marketing and Finance from UCLA’s Graduate School of Management and a BA in Economics and Sociology from Westmont College. more

Christian K-12 school curriculum encourages debate, teaches logic

The students at Heritage Oak Christian School study and discuss history’s greatest thinkers from a Christian worldview and a Greek methodology. “We try to use Socratic lecture questions and answers,” said school administrator and teacher Rich Engel…The seniors plan to go on to college, all of them starting at community college but Rebecca Gollihugh, who is going to Westmont College in Santa Barbara. more

Ridley-Tree Gets Westmont Fund Drive Headed to Impressive Finish

Westmont College’s final $40 million fundraising drive got off to a huge start Saturday evening with the announcement of a $5-million pledge by local philanthropic icon Leslie Ridley-Tree. With the gift, the school has raised more than $67 million of its $102 million goal to complete buildings and facilities under construction on campus as part of the school’s master plan. more
